The separate amplifier adds cost, and we will not pretend otherwise — but it is itself long-lived and replaceable, and a modest integrated amp spread across decades, across more than one generation of speakers in fact, adds single-digit dollars a year. It raises the per-year figure a little, and raises it once.
Now the contrast. A roughly $150 Bluetooth speaker dead in two to three years is $150 ÷ 3 ≈ $50 a year, or $150 ÷ 2 = $75 — call it $50 to $75 a year for an object that cannot be repaired.
